A simple way to increase income is to decrease spending. I’ve done this by getting all kinds of free stuff at CVS. It definitely makes me feel like I’m increasing my income 🙂

I want the free tool kit! I hope you get 25 comments….I have found that I save by using the merchants that come in the ValuPak coupons in the mail. On more than one occasion, they have been willing to beat their own price listed on the coupon, just to have the business.

Sell your used items in consignment shops or on ebay.

Separate your plants that spread (i.e. hostas, iris’s, spider plants, etc.) or grow plants from seeds of fruit/veggies that you grow and sell them! Plant yard sales are very successful, and herbs sell exceedingly well, many of them are also prolific spreaders and are super easy to split!
Buying in bulk can save money as long as you buy something that you will use all of before it goes bad. You also need to know comparible prices because just because it available at Sam’s does not mean that it is cheaper. (Often, the store off brand is still cheaper, esp when on sale).
Never buy something just because you have a coupon for it…unless it is free or nearly free. Buying something with coupons will only save you money if it is soemthing you would normally use.
I find that often the coupons are for thing I do not use since I make most things from scratch, etc. Of course, there will be the time that you can get a better brand for the same price you pay for the store bought and that is okay if you will use it.
Make your own mixes, breads, etc.
Also, if you simply do not go to the store, then you won’t spend as much altogether. I know that is a tough one, but stock up on toilet paper, etc and just don’t go. You will have to be creative with you meals, but it can be done…I can’t tell you how may times I have went to my storage area with the question of what can I make with what I have.
We also have dear hunters in the family and we are often given deer from hunters that have all the meat they need, but love to hunt, etc. I also can stretch meat out using bulgur. Of course, find out when meat is going out of date at your local grocer and stock up when it is marked down…you can do this with milk and cheese, too.
I could go on and on….I have been feeding a big family for a long time and sometimes (er, lots of times:) you just gotta find ways to eat cheap.
I just think like that….must be my upbringing. Don’t waste a thing.
Ways to earn extra cash…my goodness. It depends a lot on personalities and what you like to do. One way would be to offer to trim up neighbor’s (or anyone’s) bushes and vines and bring the cuttings home and propgate them (there is a lot of free info on the web about how to do this). You could get paid to do this!
If you have land, growin berries is a great way to earn some extra cash and it really is fairly easy (we grow lots and the kids can do it).
Of course, there’s affiliate marketing on your blog, ebay, running adsense sites, etc…
My, my, my….isn’t this fun?…too bad my hard drive crashed with all my hard earned info I had for my eBook about extra cash for kids…..I just have been too depressed about it to start all over again……bad backup disc creator….oh, the sorrow…
Good luck with your giveaway, etc. Sounds like a great idea…
Look for odd jobs, my grandmother used to take in laundry, my mother did and started cleaning homes again.
Tutor a child or an person studying for citizenship.
Contact the local parks and rec and see if they need instructors in your favorite hobby. This is a great way to off set your hobby expenses and get paid.
Sew toys and sell at craft shows, with all the china lead scare I am sure moms would love a good old fashioned home made fabric doll, doggie or blocks.
With the ever rising gas prices, I make sure to run all errands close together at the same time and try to only drive 1 or 2 days a week.
I put these on my website a few days ago, but I’m sending them to you officially:
Flip the switch from 8am-8pm: flip your breaker switches off during daytime hours, leaving only necessaries on such as refrigerator, electric cooking appliances, and A/C (if you’re like me and can’t live in the South without it).
Get rid of the cell phone or switch to a pre-pay plan: how did we survive as a species without the high and mighty cell phone!?! I know too many “poor” struggling people who refuse to give up their cell phone service! If you can’t live without it, go pre-pay! That way, if it comes down to putting food in your mouth vs. a phone to your ear, hopefully you’ll choose the food! I recommend Net10 as a pre-pay service. We get reception almost everywhere!
Eat more rice, pasta, and beans- even if health-crazy people will guilt you out of anything the color white. Food is green right now if you ask me!
Go fishing. An $18 fishing license in VA in exchange for “free” food AND entertainment in one!
If you wait long enough you can get anything for dirt cheap or free. For example- Sonny wanted a utility trailer for the longest time and it would have cost him $3,000 if he went out and bought it. But he waited for years until he found an abandoned one in a parking lot in town. He tracked down the owners and they gave it to him for free just to get it out of their hair! $50 worth of repairs and we have a full-size utility trailer!
I could put this tool kit to such great use. We can’t even afford to buy it right now. I save money by giving up things we really don’t need. Think hard about the difference between need and want.
