Well, we have a sled, a really neat old fashioned flexible flyer red one with runners. Because I bought it a few years ago at a yard sale, for $5, in the middle of summer, after a hundred people passed it by 😉
But I hear not all of you are so well prepared and since we have more than one child who likes to ride on a sled I do have plenty of alternative ideas. Below is a list. Remember the smoother they are the faster it goes.
- trash can lid
- sandbox lid
- storage bin lid
- cardboard box, will last a little while
- toilet seat lid
- laundry basket
- grain shovel
- car hood, yes it works but you might be called a redneck though
- cookie baking pan
- lunch tray
- piece of vinyl siding, this one is really good
- 5 gallon bucket lid
- folded tarp
- pizza pan
- old tire
- any of these items will work better if you spray the bottom with a kitchen cooking no stick spray, or rub with a dryer sheet
- got any more ideas? leave a comment and I will add them
- oh yeah and if you are a homeschooler this counts as engineering
so that is what works here this Wednesday, how about you?
When we were little I remember using pieces of paneling, the side of a washing machine, and also the top of one of the old round washing machines. I really don’t remember ever owning a store bought sled.
