“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. ~ Exodus 20:12
What is the land the Lord has given us? One of freedom and provision, this is a commandment folks, not optional, just like forgiving others is a commandment, God’s commandments are not suggestions, and they were not done away with in the New Testament, they are repeated there, you cannot have you and Him at the same time, you only get Him when you crucify you and submit to His ways.
We must truly be in the last days written of in 2 Timothy 3. I have seen young people, many more than I can even count, not only disobeyong their parents, but do so with complete dis-honor. Being hateful, spiteful, and mean. Purposely doing things their parents have taught them and counseled them as to be dangerous just to throw it in their faces with a “see I CAN” attitude. Now when a child is grown he or she can make their own choices, yes, but that is not what I am speaking of. I am talking of a behavior that they know to be dis-honoring to their parents and to God and using it as a weapon to hurt these folks who have raised them in God fearing loving homes.
Let me give you a parable. A child of 3 sees a growling dog on a chain. The parent says, “stay away from that growling dog, if you touch it it probably will bite you.” The child obeys. The child hears the same lesson every week for 17 years and knows that it is true. Then all of a sudden the child listens to another voice. Similar to the one that spoke to Eve in the garden. No actually it is the very same voice. It says, “what are you doing listening to your parents, what do they know, be big, you are somebody, make your own decisions, I dare you to touch the dog, prove you can, and while you are at it, it will show them, they deserve to be shown that they have bossed you around long enough.”
So the somewhat grown although very childish acting, young person, very arrogantly sticks his hand in the dog’s face. The dog bites, and clamps down, and spurred on by the taste of blood breaks free from the chain and bites, and bites and tears flesh, and damages, leaving the young person so scarred they barely resemble the child those parents so lovingly raised. As the young person is tortured and tormented it cries for those voices that encouraged this to begin with, “help” it cries, but no help arrives. The young person is not so beautiful or innocent anymore and those “friends” have abandoned them.
So to you young people, I ask, why is the truth any less true just because your parents are the ones saying it? And my second question is, what is the dog in your life? And what are you going to do with it?
And to those rebel-inspiring folks out there being that other voice, I remind you that God has a very special place for you, at the bottom of the sea with a millstone tied around your neck, but that is just temporary, your final destination is where the cries of anguish never ever stop, and by then it will be too late to repent.

I love it when God uses the willing to kick butt.

Good one, Penny.

I think part of the problem stems from our generation. Many parents of our generation forgot to show honor and respect to their aging parents when their kids were growing up and the grandchildren of those aging grandparents took notice.
