We have had quite the summer so far. House guests, extra meetings at church, reorganizing stuff at our farm, starting a new business, and some family growing pains. We are not a household of little children anymore. We are rather a household with many quickly growing into adults. Seasons and lives are changing. All of that takes some adjustments. When things and people and schedules and routines get out of whack I get it all back in order with what we call boot camp. We usually follow a loose schedule, more of a routine. Things usually go pretty smooth with everyone knowing what they are supposed to be doing. But when things get out of whack it goes downhill fast. Then it is time for a strict schedule until things get back in order.
So, if my house it is boot camp, what am I ? Yep Drill Sergeant Momma. Do I like being a drill sergeant? Absolutely not. It means stopping what I am doing all day long, it means repeating myself more loudly each time, it means taking away privileges and enforcing the family laws. It hurts my feelings and makes me tired, very very tired of being the bad guy. But it isn’t about me. And if I can endure for one week things get back in shape and run pretty smoothly for quite awhile. Maybe even a year or so. We often have to stand back and ask the Lord to give us a glimpse of the bigger picture. One week of boot camp can put a soldier back in shape. We just need to remember whose army we are in. We need to be ready in season and out, we need to take a good look at what a disciplined life is. And we need to get marching!

Here! Here! My kids have experienced Boot Camps like this one before – often! I really don’t like to be the drill sergeant – but sometimes it’s necessary! Happy drilling this week!
