Mommas are one of the things in life that most folks take for granted. They think she will always be there saying the same ole thing. All too often the ear is turned away from her same ole talk, folks think they know what she is going to say before she even says it and thus they form an opinion without ever listening. They expect her to cover all the bases, make all the calls, clean all the boo boos and fix everything. And most Mommas do all those things. Not because they are dumb or brainless. Not because they don’t see what is going on, because all Mommas have the ability to see through walls. Mommas can hear conversations that are a half mile away and they most often know if a child has gotten into something just by the look on their face. They are the true superhero prototype. And most Mommas do it all for love. They may appear dumb because to the onlooker their dedication is completely without reason. Often times her love is not returned nor her wisdom appreciated, but she is dedicated anyway.
Probably the biggest regret I have in life and the most repentance I have ever expressed was in regards to how I treated my mom when I was young. I was a typical teenager and I did not treat my Momma like Jesus would have liked. And even though I have cried buckets of tears in repentance and know I am forgiven by her and by the Lord, it is still a scar in my life.
Even after we got married had children and moved 2000 miles away, I still talked to my mom at least once a week. For my whole adult life I still expected her to be there, until one day she wasn’t. Her passing was pretty quick, very sudden and unexpected and it still hurts. There were many many years and a thousand “I love yous” between my rebellious teenage years and our final goodbye. But I sure would love to tell her again. I love you Mom.
Don’t miss your opportunity to show your Momma how much you love her, you never know when it might be the last.
