I love living in the South. It has been 17 years since we moved from Southern California to TN. 5 of my 8 children have been born here. I love the seasons changing and the country lifestyle. We thought we lived in the country in California and for there we did but we didn’t have all the rolling acres we do here. And we didn’t have the dairy cows. Mostly all we had were horses and chickens with some occasional goats. Here we have green green green everywhere.
This time of year the weather goes from spring back to wintery feeling a few times before settling int a warm season. Right now it is what is called Blackberry Winter. That is basically a cold snap that happens the same time the blackberry brambles are blooming. It lasts about 3 days or so. Today is cold enough to have the heat on and tomorrow will be 82 degrees. Go figure. But God has order in all things, order and purpose.
Our Holstein dairy cow had her calf this morning so we will be milking again. Holsteins give a lot more milk than Jerseys, so she will be keeping us busy but we have plenty of hands. For those of you who might like to experience the miracle of a cow birthing I will be putting together a short book on it with a ton of “as it happened” pictures. My children think it is gross but then they see it all the time. I don’t think birth of any kind is gross or boring. I think it is an incredible miracle. 🙂
So, what is everyone else up to this Monday?

I’ve never heard it called blackberry winter – but I like it! It sounds so much nicer than a May snow storm! :0
