Have you ever experienced shame even when you did nothing wrong? Maybe you were associated with or related to someone who did something really really wrong and shameful. Or maybe someone believed a lie about you. Or maybe you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is absolutely the worst feeling in the world to be guilty. It is even worse to experience that when you have done nothing wrong. Yet Jesus did that for us. He did nothing wrong. He never sinned. He had plenty of opportunities and was certainly tempted.
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
If He could withstand all that for us cannot we at least attempt to live a life that doesn’t cause Him more shame? If we call ourselves Christians shouldn’t we be at least aware of our behavior? Shouldn’t we at attempt to be worthy of what He has done for us? Not that we can ever deserve what He has done. But if we have a true understanding of the gift He has given us, our thankfulness will shine through.
