We tend to do holidays a bit different than most folks. We don’t make a a big deal out of most traditional holidays, in fact we don’t celebrate most of them at all. Most holidays that are supposedly about the Lord really aren’t and we choose to celebrate Him everyday anyway. Focusing on Jesus once or twice a year and living like a heathen the rest of the time is a slap in His face if you ask me. If you can’t live for Him on September 22 or March 1st then don’t fool yourself into thinking He is impressed with your offering the end of December or middle of April.
One thing we seriously do celebrate around here are birthdays. We very much value life and celebrate in a big way the day each of our children were born. It is a great day of thanksgiving with a huge family party.
This was my special birthday cake creation for Hannah yesterday. It is a Brownie – Ice Cream – Banana Split – Chocolate Sunday Cake. We took a 13×9 baking dish and made a batch of brownies then set it to cool. When cool we layered it with peanut butter ice cream sandwiches, then we spread on an entire large container of cool whip.
Then the power went out. For no good reason. Typical of where we live. Rural life has it’s headaches.
We put the cake in the freezer and prayed for the best.
Since we couldn’t cook supper yet, and I was SO hungry waiting for Taquitos, we decided to open presents. Hannah got lots of fun gifts and he was really happy. Since the power was still not fixed we decided to finish the cake. We took it out and added a nice all over drizzle of very rich chocolate sauce. Then another layer of sliced pineapple rings (fresh pineapple is currently 99cents at Aldi’s) and banana slices. We also added fresh sliced strawberries and then chopped nuts. Then we topped with maraschino cherries. It was definitely one of a kind and everyone loved it! The power still was not on so everyone ate cake. 🙂 Except me, I don’t really like sweets that much. Just give me plain dark chocolate. After about 2 1/2 hours they had the power problem fixed and we made Taquitos. Yum.

I think Hannah is one blessed girl to have a Moma who makes her such a special Birthday cake! Also, what a special memory you all created! Thanks for sharing!
Have a Blessed Easter Celebrating Our Risen Lord!

WOW that’s a spectacular cake!
We do the same– we do not practice the “traditional” holidays at all because they are not for Jesus’ sake but for merchants’ sakes! We do Thanksgiving as our biggest holiday, and Independence Day is special to us.
Glad you got your power back.
