We had a very interesting Fourth of July this year. We did everything we planned to do, except. . . without electricity.
At 4 pm on Wednesday, a storm knocked out our power. It was not restored until 9 pm last evening (the 4th).
However, we grilled steaks and vege. kabobs, made broccoli salad, boiled potatoes (oven wouldn’t work because it is regulated by an electric temp. gauge — thankfully, we could manually light the stove top!), and prepared a flag cake out of angel food cake, blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream. We had planned to play yard games, but everyone was bushed from not getting good sleep (no fans, but the temps were still pretty cool). So, we set up the yard tent and played Uno at the card table outside.
As we finished the seventh round, we heard the carbon monoxide detector beeping. Our power was on! So, we headed into the house to watch another installment of the John Adams miniseries we had rented from Netflix before heading to bed. . . with the fans on!
