At my house we love to cook, I mean we LOVE to cook, we also love to eat, but it is really the creativity that is so much fun. And we don’t like store bought bread. Too many additives. So this is one of our favorite staples. Something we have been making for years and previously shared in one of my ebooks. Sourdough. (Any links most likely are affiliate links)
Whole wheat yummy healthy sourdough. I have read tons on the gluten free craze and personally think there there is more too it than most folks realize and it is my personal opinion that if you are having problems it is probably something else. I would be happy to share some info resources if you like but don’t want to focus on that here. If wheat doesn’t work for you I understand. However this works just beautifully with us, and it is simple and only has 3 ingredients, 4 if you count water. And it is easy, oh my goodness super easy.
Ready? Here we go. Got a pencil? No? No problem, you can memorize it.
1 1/2 T yeast
1 1/2 T Real salt
3 cups water warm but not hot
6 cups flour, fresh milled red wheat flour, still warm is best
In a one gallon lemonade type pitcher add water, salt and yeast and mix well with wooden spoon. Then add wheat flour a couple cups at a time, stirring with spoon till mixed. That is it. Put lid on with pouring vent open to breath. Leave it on the counter for 24 hours. After that use or put in fridge till ready to use. We do not use this like a starter and add to it, if you do sooner or later it will get an off flavor or start to smell like a brewery and I do not like that. If you are real bread addicts you can mix some up every other day or so and always have some ready, it will keep fine in the fridge for a week or so getting a bit more sour every day. I have several recipes we use this for and am adding more at BlessThe Cook.com .
Enjoy.
This IS compatible with the trim Healthy Mama plan if you let it sit for 48 hours before using.
