Ok, instead of a frugal friday tip, I have a question. Hope that is ok Crystal. Crystal over at Biblical Womanhood is soooo good to keep us on track. Ok so here is my question. What do y’all use to clean your commode? We have a septic tank so we can’t use anything that will damage that ecosystem, like bleach. And we have an old house, and there are 2 commoseds used regularly by 9 people here. I know my posts are getting grosser by the minute. But please, what do y’all use that keeps the commode clean and white? And doesn’t require a second on the house mortgage. I am patiently waiting for answers.

How about a vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle? Vinegar is cheap and safe and once it dries, all you smell is clean. 🙂

You would have to check if this is septic safe but I used Simple Green for all bathroom cleaning when I was pregnant. It works very well on tubs.

Don’t laugh, but I use denture cleaning tablets! I buy the cheapest “antibacterial” denture tabs I can find (usually store brand) and drop 2 or 3 (depending on how dirty the toilet is) into the bowl. Let them dissolve and swipe with the brush! I like this approach because my kids can safely do the job without me worrying about them being exposed to really nasty chemicals. For the outside of the bowl, I spray with either a vinegar/water/essential oil solution or Simple Green.

We have hard water so I’ve had to use a pumice stone to get the ring that develops around the water line off.
