Creatively Simple- How to Make Homemade Tamales

A tamale is a  Mexican delight that consists of a meat filling wrapped by a corn dough and steamed in a corn husk. They are served with a chili or tomato sauce on top. If you have not ever had one you will just have to trust me, they are incredible.

Once you have made these you will wonder why you ever took so long to learn. They are not real hard, but they are a bit intimidating. Just take your time, enlist the help of your favorite people and have fun. Tamales are best when they are a group effort. We like to all line up like an assembly line and we have as much fun making them as we do eating them. We usually make about a hundred of them at a time and they are something we make for family gatherings. We moved from Southern California to Tennessee in the late fall of 1993. It was a wonderful new place except for one thing. We had grown up on Mexican food. Not American style fast food Mexican but authentic, miles from the border California style Mexican food. There was no good Mexican food in Tennessee. So I made it myself. Then I taught my daughters. Then we had more daughters and they learned to cook better than me. And they got better and better. And now that there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in Tennessee, we still can’t find one that tastes as good as our daughters cook. So I followed Georgia around the kitchen with my camera just to get this incredible information for you! This is part of a set of many books, some already released and some I have yet to complete.
