down home goodness

It is funny the things we remember. A friend posted on facebook this morning the silly things their child was saying and mentioned how as our children grow we will miss such things. I replied with the fact that we need to write such things down to never forget them. It is funny which things they will remember. When our oldest got married after getting all settled into her own home you know what she wanted to do? Come to our house for supper and afterward watch the Waltons. Even though most of our children give hubby a hard time because he is the one who want to watch the Waltons and they have all seen them a thousand times :) . But that meant down home goodness to her. It is a fond memory for her. as they grow one of our jobs as parents is to create fond memories. Things that will bring a smile to our children’s faces years after they are grown. Stories that will be preceded by, “remember when”.

We are having another of or turkey suppers tonight. I mention often that we buy several turkeys for the freezer when they go on sale before Thanksgiving. Another fond memory coming up :) . So, what speaks of down home goodness to you?

helping Haiti

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Cryo-Cell International. All opinions are 100% mine.

Well it has been awhile and the news isn’t at the top of the page anymore but there are still hurting children in Haiti. In fact the sad part is is that there will probably always be hurting children in Haiti. The really sad truth is is that there are hurting children all over the world. There is a way to help one problem.

Remember a few months ago I mentioned using menstrual blood as a source of stem cells? Stem cells that can save lives without costing any. Well another rich source of those valuable stem cells is found in umbilical cord blood. The blood is still in the umbilical cord after delivery and is usually discarded. But it doesn’t have to be. umbilical cord blood became a viable substitute to bone marrow in thousands of successful transplants. Cells taken from a  newborn are a perfect match for the baby for his or her entire life. If the  child contracts a disease, which might be treated with chemotherapy or radiation, there is most likely going to be a problem with the  immune system. While an self transplant may not be the answer  for every disease, there could be a solution  in using the preserved U-Cord® stem cells to strengthen  and increase  the child’s blood and immune system as a result of problems  from the  treatments.

And if you enroll now Cryo-Cell will donate $25 from each enrollment to the “Save the Children: Haiti Relief Fund”. Cryo-Cell and stem cell research is worth looking into, it is helping children here and in Haiti.

a new creation, not a makeover

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

I love this time of year, and one of my favorite signs is when the daffodils appear. Here in the south we call them buttercups. They are not like rose bushes where the plant resides but gets a new bloom. No actually every year a new sprout comes up and new blooms blossom. A flower where there has never been one before.

I have a past. Yep an ungodly, used to be a sinner past. And while it may be more colorful than some and less colorful that others it is nontheless a past. When I accepted Jesus as in, “I will GIVE my entire life for you, I will die for you and I will LIVE for you” I no longer existed as that same person. Jesus didn’t clean me up or give me a makeover. I became a new person. All the things I did previously are no longer attached to me. All the mistakes I made are not mine anymore. No wonder it feels like it was another life, it was! I am a NEW CREATION! Yay!

prayer works for me

I mentioned a few days ago that I like all my chicks in the nest. I actually don’t sleep if they aren’t. Some of our older daughters have been helping with some elderly neighbors and some folks tend to think my son is on call for them 24 hours a day. While one is a God calling and the other isn’t it still keeps me up praying at night. Not to mention a thousand other things I have to pray about. Which brings me to this thought. What would you do if you couldn’t pray? If there was no hope of Jesus changing or protecting or guiding. What a terrible place to be. I daily see the results of prayer. I see folks healed of big huge things and very small things that don’t seem so small when they are in the middle of it. I see attitudes change instantly because of prayer. I feel peace instantly because of prayer. I know that I know my God hears me. I know that I know He cares. I know that I know He wants me to come to Him,  just as I want my own children to come to me. Have you ever had a child or  friend or a loved one who obviously had a problem but when you asked if they wanted to talk or if they needed something they simply lied to your face and said everything was ok? Your heart breaks for them but you can’t do a thing until they open up, you know that feeling? That is how our God feels when we don’t open up to Him, only a thousand times over because He truly does have all the answers. So, that is my tip of the day. Prayer works for me!

ever feel persecuted?

“Show me a believer who has become both a lover and a doer of the truth, and I’ll show you one who has been rejected and persecuted by the entire lukewarm Church. Rest assured, if you give up on this world, it will quickly give up on you.” – David Wilkerson
