a sacrifice of freedom

1 Samuel 15:22 (New International Version)
22 But Samuel replied:
“Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams
This is Blossum and Monday morning she was in the strawberry patch. The strawberry patch which is well fenced is forbidden area for cows. And Blossum knows that. It was not the first time she was caught in there. And sin is pleasurable for a season … until you get caught … which she did. Since it was so early Hannah got her out, tied her to the hitching post and went back to bed. And Blossum lost her freedom for the morning. She had to stand here for quite some time before she got milked. She had no where to go. Tied to a hitching post with 2 cats staring at her. For hours. No Freedom.
How often do we do the very same thing? Indulge in something forbidden? Give in to some behaviour that looks like no big deal, but we know better. Then we get caught. And our circumstances tie us up. And instead of harmless kitties perching nearby it is a demonic presence waiting to devour us with worry, and unforgiveness or sickness. We can repent and the blood of Jesus cleanses us today rather than having to give a blood sacrifice like they did in the old covenant, yet when we disobey aren’t we crucifying Jesus all over again? And when we are too stubborn to obey we are usually too stubborn to repent, and there we sit, tied to a hitching post.
When will we learn… it is easier to obey than to sacrifice our freedom?

Great object lesson. Disobedience does result in loss of freedom. I have found it true in Christ and in life. Happy WFW!
