Birthday Bash Celebration

Well here we go, this is a Tackle it Tuesdayand then some. Today is Hannah’s birthday, Saturday is Georgia’s birthday then next Tuesday is Moriah’s birthday then next Sunday is My birthday! In between there we have 2 weddings, a baptism at our church, a horse due with a baby, two other horses having surgery (gelding and such) and it is Mule Day in our community which could be likened to the inauguration and then finally Ressurection Sunday on my birthday! So to say the least, we are busy and in the mood to celebrate. So here goes!

stimulus money, the cure or the curse

So the big news today is that folks will start seeing more money in their paychecks. Well for one thing it doesn’t do a thing for us self-employed folks. But the second things is, at what expense? Nothing is for free. We will pay big for this.

When I was young I read a book about how to be happy, it was by some big author who was popular at the time. It wasn’t necesarrily a Christian book but it was full of Biblical Principles. Two things I read that have stuck with me for over 20 years were these.

  1. Whatever is most important in your life is what you will be most successful at.
  2. To be happy we need enough money for basic necessities, food, clothing, shelter, everything above that causes extra stress.

I have found these principles to be very true. How about you?

Oh and as an extra hint … make Jesus the most important thing in your life, He can easily handle all the rest for you.

GM, Obama, bailouts, corporate America and family

Well it now appears that if the the President doesn’t like the way you are doing your job he can fire you. That may sound like a surprise but it is not new. Ask the guy who USED TO BE the CEO of GM.

Obama aides flunk GM and Chrysler

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner says the White House asked him to step aside as part of the federal government’s bailout strategy for the troubled automaker. The Obama administration gave GM and Chrysler failing grades for their turnaround efforts, CNNMoney reports. President Obama is expected to make a formal announcement today about his plans for the companies, which have already been given $17.4 billion. full story

Anytime, I repeat anytime you take government money you are subject to government intervention in your life. In other words if their money is in your business then your business is their business. Or school or even family can be their business. Did anybody really think this whole buyout thing had no strings attached?

Do we see where this is headed? I would really like to say that I don’t care and that t doesn’t affect me, but the truth is God put us in communities that depend on one another so we would care about each other. He actually wants us to behave as a family, but most folks can’t grab that concept because their own immediate family does not act like a family. A family is not a group of separate independent folks that all do their own thing without it affecting each other. Actually that is what the average American family looks like but it is not what it is supposed to be. A family is supposed to be a group of individuals who all have different gifting and talents and even often ideas but all work together knowing that each and every move affects another. You absolutely cannot say that if you cut off your right hand it does not affect your left. It not only affects the other hand but also both feet and seriously hinders putting your pants on in the morning. Yet we have come to the point in our families and in this country that we can do as we please and it is no one else’s business.

In our small community which isn’t so small anymore there is a GM plant that used to be the Saturn plant. But Saturn didn’t work out the way they thought it would and was swallowed up by GM. It employs thousands of folks. Most of which came here from somewhere else. Mostly up North, many from Michigan. It has not only changed the economy it has changed the whole culture here. It has changed the housing market, the crime rate, the schools, and even the vocabulary. Some for the good, some for the bad. Some of the folks who came whn the Saturn plant started came from very big cities like Detroit to our sleepy little town, they had been laid off previously and were happy to get a new job. They brought families that had been through lots of stress, they brought teenagers with guns and drug problems. They brought wives that had been seriously disgruntled. Now they are being laid off again, but they are now part of this community. Some of their children are grown and now married to local children, their children go to the local schools. Some of those disgruntled wives left and remarried local men. You see how intertwined it all is?

So when God says, “pray for the corporate leaders of America” or “pray for the President” or even “pray for your local school system” , don’t tell Him to mind His own business. Because we want our business to be His business. And we most certainly want His business to be our business.
