family communication

My daughter and her hubby  use mostly cell phones.  They do have internet service. They don’t have a landline. But since she likes to talk to her Momma and sisters and her cell minutes are not unlimited her dear hubby got something that hooks up to the computer and she can talk to me all day long. I had seen this Magic Jack thing but hadn’t taken it too serious until they got one. So now that I have been talking to her for months with it, I am ready to recommend it.
MagicJack

It really does work, and 99% of the time sounds great. She can hook up a regular phone to it, so you don’t have to have a special phone and it sounds clear, like a regular phone. She has a cordless phone on hers. That is one priority with our family, communication.

know your prices

This is not anything new,  in fact I have shared this often, but it bears repeating. “It isn’t a deal if it isn’t a deal.” There. That was it.  Ok, for the sake of being a Frugal Friday post I wll elaborate. I went to CVS the other day because they had my son in laws favorite cereal on sale. Buy one, get one free. So for 4.79 I got two boxes. But the same box was only 2.42 at walmart. So two boxes there would cost 4.84. So even thought I got two free boxes at CVS I only really saved a nickle each. Hardly worth my time. And here is the kicker. The family size at walmart is even cheaper per ounce. So I actually lost money by following a sales ad. You have to know what things cost. If that had been something I normally shop for I would have had the price in my book or in my head. It pays to know. Literally.

telling a horse story- blogging lesson

So, what kind of horse story would you like to hear? Maybe one about a quarter horse? I like quarter horses. I also like saddle horses. saddle horses are very popular but not as popular as quarter horses. Palamino horses are nice with western saddles or english saddles. Black horses, white horses, grey horses, bay horses, sorrel horses, chesnut horses. All horses are nice and I like horses. What I do not like is ignorant people trying to give advice when they don’t have a clue what they are talking about.

domestic daughters

I have incredible daughters. They can cook, sew, bake bread, care for a baby, clean like a professional, and also break a horse, drive a tractor, milk a cow,  can homemade preserves, and stack a field full of hay bales. They are also creative and beautiful. Now what I want to know is why that is unusual?  When did we as Christian American parents lose our desire to raise daughters with values AND skills?   My new ebook series was born out of a need to teach young (and old) mothers forgotten skills. Basic stuff. These are things we have learned together in our home. Why didn’t my mom teach me this stuff? I am glad I was bored enough with the normal American lifestyle to sit at my grandmas elbow as she sewed.  It sparked something creative in me.

Raising domestic daughters, now that is something that works for me this Wednesday.

bread of life

For my Word Filled Wed pic I have this from one of my upcoming books. As good as this looks, even with fresh butter, there is something even better.

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.                            John 6:35

Does it get any better than that?

who needs books?

On one of the groups I am on someone raised the question, “Do homeschoolers buy more books than the average family?”  I thought I would answer with a Wordless Wed picture. This is the biggest bookshelf we have covering a 19 foot wall. But it isn’t the only bookshelf we have, there are more  , and also more books in storage. Good thing I have a big house.
