prepare for cold

Well, we did get ice. But we still have power. We also have much lower temps than we are supposed to have. Winter has not even started yet and it didn’t seem like it was going to be too bad, but I guess it is time to face facts and get prepared. We have already used as much firewood as we do for nearly a whole season. Hopefully that stays a guy job.

So let me see what else needs to be done.

  1. clean, fill and get oil lamps ready
  2. find every nook and cranny air leak in this old house
  3. get out extra quilts
  4. prepare door stop rolls for exterior doors
  5. compile 10 “warm your bones” recipes
  6. stock up on hot cocoa makings
  7. check storm doors and windows for drafts
  8. find some good family cowboy movies

Some of these I have already completed as I tackle along this Tuesday.

  • We already had to use the oil lamps this season…long power outage and there are sure to be more as the winter progresses. It is nice to be prepared though and you have a wonderful list to go by.

  • We are getting snow here in MN. So much for G.W.

  • You guys should try it up here in Northern Illinois. At least it’s 2o degrees warmer tonight – and it’s only 21. We’ve had the extra comforters out for well over a month.

We don’t have power outages much though….
Hey, there’s good and bad in everything.
