blogging makeover

Well, I have successfully upgraded to WordPress 2.7, and now I am working on a new theme. So by tomorrow, you will see a new look. So far I am liking 2.7, seems faster from the inside.

I am going to be deleting a lot of one line posts. Who cares that we under a tornado warning 6 months later? Also some stuff that is just old news, but if it affected family life and I wrote about that too, I would leave it. For all of my up to the minute news I often post it on twitter, I invite you to follow me http://twitter.com/pennyraine  and on facebook at my name Penny Raine. I use the same picture for everything so I am easy to find .

So please keep checking in and tell me how you like the new look.

a plan and a purpose

Well, the New Year is, wait let me look again, yep, the day after tomorrow. My, my, how time fies. Do you know that God expects us to be responsible with the time He has given us? Many many years ago I used to work in sales. My employer sent us to a very good sales seminar taught by a successful guy with Godly principles, I learned a lot. Two of the things I strongly remember even 20 something years later, are this,

  1. Never try to sell something to someone that you cannot honestly believe will improve their life.
  2. To always be doing the most productive thing possible with every given moment.

Now those are both statements of wisdom you can live by. And for those of you who don’t think you ever “sell”,  have news for you, we all “sell” something all day long. We sell each other on ideas, thoughts, and ways of life every time we open our mouths. So that first rule is one we should take to heart, very seriously. How often have you said something unkind about someone or something to someone who trusts you? You probably “sold” them on your opinion, and it may not have improved their life.  Watching what comes out of our mouths would probably be a good goal for the new year. And now, onto goals …..

I do not like to use the word “resolution” because to me it screams FAILURE. I don’t know why, maybe it is just me. And it also insinuates that the world is going to end if you break it. I rather like to think of plans and purposes.

”Where there is no vision, the people perish” — Proverbs 29:18

But I like to know that my plans are directed by God.

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”

—Proverbs 19:21

So that is my goal today, to pray about the plans He has for me this upcoming year and then map them out, tomorrow I get out the new calendar and start writing things in. Then I get out the planner and start making goals, and plans to attack those goals. Join me tomorrow.  Join me today, today we pray, today we ask for direction. How is that for a tackle it Tuesday?

Love and Legacy

I really wasn’t feeling very loved this morning, not any one reason, and yes missing my parents who are both gone. As I do in times like that, I spent a little extra time in prayer and asked the Lord to please show me that I am indeed loved. I know that I am, especially by Him, but I don’t think he minds when we ask for that. I think He enjoys showing us just how much we are loved. Well, within about an hour one of my favorite long distance relatives whom I hadn’t talked to in nearly a year called to tell me how much she appreciated me. The call came from TX.

Then hubby walked in from going to the post office and handed me two packages. One came in the post office box and the other in our home mail box.

In one package was a bundle of old family pictures that had been in my Grandmother’s things. She passed away many years ago and my aunt had decided to pass them on to me. She mailed them from CA.

In the other package was a gift from hubby’s step-mom, I dislike that word as it denotes distance, but I am using it to show the whole picture here. The gift was 2 handwritten recipe books from her mother. They are written in hardbound very pretty journal type books. There was also a note with some cash telling me to treat myself to something, something I have a hard time doing. This package came from AZ.

Just as I was about done looking through all of the things in the packages my daughter and her dear hubby showed up unexpectedly for a short visit. I wasn’t dressed for visitors and went into my room to change, I still had the door shut when she knocked to come it. She ended up coming in my room and sitting on my bed to talk. Something she used to do every day before she got married. Only the Lord knew what a gift that was.

And only the Lord could have orchestrated all of the those events to come together from 4 different states all at once, and just when I needed it. He is always faithful.

Thank you Jesus, I love you too.

I am thinking… I have lots to do, and need to make a list

I am thankful for… my daughter and her soon to be born daughter, wish my mom were here

From the kitchen… I hear cooking going on, not sure what

From the learning rooms… writing, writing, writing,

I am wearing…  jammies
I am reading…  lots of blogging tech stuff, you can teach an old dog new tricks but it takes longer
I am hoping… that I somehow get a treadmill

I am hearing… sweeping
I am creating…   love around me I hope, that is my goal
Around the house… things are moving along quickly, I like to write this before things get going around here, but they beat me to it this morning

One of my favorite things…  my family
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…  I haven’t made my list yet, but that is my plan, to make lots of lists and goals for the new year, and to share how I do it

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…  I have a good one for you, me and Homemaker Hannah, isn’t she beautiful?

This week’s preview Dec 29

Already December 29? The weather this week actually looks normal for this time of year. We had a storm the other night that sounded like a tornado, the wind and the rain were incredible. But now things look normal, cold, but not extreme.  the power steering went out in the car we ususally drive and the van needs tags and a tire, we hadn’t been driving it while gas was so high, but I guess it is time to get it going again. After so many years, I have gotten tired of driing a big truck/van all the time, so now I have even more of an excuse to stay home, where I like it  , I try to compile my errands into one day a week anyway.

here are my plans for the week,

Monday-  I still have a last minute sale in my bookstore.  I will continue it through Wed. Then onto the New Year. I had a download problem over the weekend but I think it should be resolved today, for those who experienced a problem I will be sending an extra gift your way. Also I will join in with “Simple Woman’s Daybook”, “Menu Plan Monday” and “At the Well”.

Tuesday- Time for Tackle it Tuesday, and hopefully another blogging lesson, have you got blogging questions?

Wednesday -   Works for me Wednesday, Wordless Wednesday picture and a Word-filled picture with a fresh word from the Lord!

Thursday-  The plan is more “real deal reviews”  and Thursday Thirteen, and Thankful Thursday. And maybe a guest post.

Friday-   my new Meme called FAVORITE FRIDAY FREEBIES! It was absent last week, And I will again try to join Robin Sampson for her Fruit of the Spirit Friday. Crystal is taking a break from Frugal Friday, I think she will be back next week.
