the cooks

I posted something somewhere that said the cooks had outdone themselves and some asked if I had hired cooks, so for those that may not know, the cooks are my daughters. We have 4 daughters still at home. the oldest of 5 girls is now moved into her new home and is happily cooking for her hubby. The cooks have outdone themselves, it is dangerous to live here.

Apple pie, apple crisp, blackberry jam and blackberry syrup, biscuits and gravy, sausage and biscuits, homemade bread, chicken and dumplins, chili rellenos, super spicy habenera hot sauce, jalepeno hush puppies, jalepeno chicken and rice, stuffed bell peppers, fried eggplant. And that was just the last few days, oh yeah and I forgot the gingerbread. All homemade.

That works for me this Wednesday. next week, the Big Give

tackling tubs and toilets with CLR

Well, we live in the country and have spring water and a septic tank, and our house was vacant for many years before we bought it. Besides which the house was built in the 1800′s and obviously indoor plumbing installed whenever such things became fashionable in TN, 1989 maybe? Just kidding, leftover joke from my Dad cause my mom was from TN. Seriously though there are still outhouses in TN. But we do not have one. Anyway, when we bought this house the toilets looked like they had been here since 1940, and like they had not been cleaned ever. That is what you get when you buy a farm for under $110 grand. You get nasty toilets. Among other things.

Now on a normal day I would just put a gallon of bleach in it and let it soak until the cows come home. But the cows ARE home, and folks here gotta use things and bleach kills the good live stuff in the septic. So when I got the opportunity to try some CLR I did not hesitate. It said on the bottle

  • Always wear household rubber gloves.
  • Always use this product in a well-ventilated area.
  • So we called the janitor in, AKA daddy, he is good at nasty stuff with strong cleaners. Even though the bathrooms are cleaned daily they were nasty and stained.

    The toilets went from this

      to this

and it made the soap scummy shower that is so hard to clean from this

       to this

    a definite improvement.

Since the younger girls won’t be using it daily we will see how it does used weekly with the regular stuff used daily. I will keep you posted. find out what others are tackling here

    a blogging momma’s average day

Well I got an email this morning from a kind woman at the BBC, as in BRITISH BRODCASTING, as in the biggest broadcaster in the world. She was saying they saw my blog and would I like to discuss whether aide workers should be allowed to share the Gospel in foreign lands, would I like to talk about it LIVE on the AIR? I said sure so she called to talk about it then called back again for the LIVE SHOW. She called me, little ole me, from England. And boy did she have a nice accent. We had a nice online chat. A chat, just me, her, K.P Yohann and some other big wigs and some folks over in AFGANISTAN.

Well in between those calls, I helped Hannah make jalepeno hush puppies, took before and after pics of the toilet,  wrote about TN ice storms and well ya know, just normal stuff. Then after the live show, I went outside to take pictures of Daddy-o playing basketball with of his PE students.

So, now we are back to putting all of those neat things in order. Hmmm, after I listen to the recording I will give you a link for the live show, and if you stay tuned you will find out why I am taking pictues of PE class and toilets, and maybe I wil share the hush puppy recipe and the Ice Storm story.

all in a day’s blogging
