turkey as a comfort food

Last November one of our local stores had nice Butterball turkeys on sale for $7.99. I bought 8! They were only about 12-15 pounds so they weren’t big enough for holiday meals with this crowd and guests, but they are just right when it is just us. We have had 2 a month throught the winter. Along with our local stores special of 20# of potatoes for $3.99 and my girls making homemade bread, the only other thing I need to be sure I have is some fresh or frozen veggies. So twice a month we have a big turkey dinner with all of the fixins, well all the one’s that are popular around here anyway. When money is really tight, or the weather has been nasty for days on end, or you just have the winter “blahs” there is nothing like a nice turkey dinner. It is a family thing. It is a comfort thing. And after the big meal we can usually get another 2-3 meals out of that bargain bird! Creamed turkey over biscuits, turkey soup, turkey broth with lentils and rice. And so on and so on.

trying to mind my own business

Well here I am trying to mind my own business, letting folks know about our big FireSale and actually still adding the final touches. I decided to check some friend’s blogs, I like to find things I relate to to comment on. Boy was I ambushed! First I come across Shannon’s post at www.rocksinmydryer.typepad.com all about her recent trip to Africa and how her heart is with the needy children there and how do you go from THAT to THIS normal life in America. Well as Heidi Baker would say, that completely messed me up. (in a good way) And then I actually regain my composure and go to www.mommylife.net to visit Barbara and she has a post with VIDEO no less about Margaret Sangers Klanned Parenthood (yes that misspelling was on purpose) and all about her agenda which I fully know and have done my best to expose for YEARS! There is more than a coincidental similarity between abortions in the US and the Nazi plan! DUH America WAKE UP!  OUR children are being murdered and starved and dying while others further their own political plan! There is an enemy and he is behind this and this kind only comes out by prayer and fasting. While we (the church) are playing patty-cake children are dying! This is a link to a song the Lord gave my daughter, “What will it take” I DARE you to listen. www.pennyraine.com/audio/what.mp3

fly away home

Tonight we watched the movie Fly Away Home. We got it from Netflix through our membership. You can get a free trial, click here.  It was a good movie, uh family details first, rated PG accident scene in the very beginning, hunters aiming at the geese use the doo doo word, and the widower dad has a part time girlfriend who says she lives there sometimes, and let me see when the little girl gets soap in her yes in the shower her screaming got a little uncomfortable as did the rescue. OK that part out of the way. The movie was about a young girl, lonely after her mom dies, moves in with her dad who she didn’t have a close relationship with. It gets better as they learn to understand each other by teaching a flock of orphan geese how to fly. Suspenseful in a good way, heartwarming and a lovely ending! I like this kind!
